About the Blog:
This is a blog for me, an Asian American with a B.A. in Asian American studies and an Asian studies minor, to review the books I read. I will focus primarily on Anglophone Asian and diasporic Asian books (especially #ownvoices books written by Asians/diasporic Asians that feature Asian or diasporic characters) and young adult fiction (middle grade and new adult are also fair game). I will also read other diverse books featuring POC/indigenous, LGBTQ, disabled, religious minority characters. However, I will also review other fiction and nonfiction books I read when I feel like it. If you would like to request a review, please see my Review Policy page.
About the Blogger:
My name is Shenwei (nickname Shenners). I’m a 23-year-old Taiwanese American sweet potato who loves food (particularly carbs), books (mostly YA), and plushies (especially doggos). I read fast, I write slowly, and I think too much about everything. My favorite genre to read and write is fantasy, particularly high/historical fantasy. My best friend calls me a closet romantic, and I refer to myself as an idealistic cynic or cynical idealist. I care a lot about representation for marginalized groups and support the movement to diversify and decolonize literature and other media.
About the Reviews:
My reviews are necessarily colored by my subjective experiences. Therefore, I’d like to make it clear that my reviews come from my perspective as the following: a monoracial Asian and non-black/non-indigenous person of color, a 2nd generation Taiwanese American, a non-binary, genderqueer/genderfluid person (they/them), a bi/pan and demisexual/gray-ace person, a person with depression and anxiety, an able-bodied person. My experiences encompass many marginalized identities but nowhere near all of the possible ones, so I am always open to being educated on my biases.
Support My Work:
I’m currently unemployed and don’t get paid or otherwise compensated to do the work I do as a blogger and reviewer (minus ARCs in exchange for reviews) even though it is skilled labor that draws on my college degree. If you would like to support my work, you can buy me books from my Amazon wish list. Or you can use the following:
